Mock Survey Questionnaire for Thematic Area Windows under the Green Economic Transition Facility (GETF)
The Green Economic Transition Facility (GETF), launched in April 2023, is Malawi’s flagship initiative designed to stimulate private sector investments in the green economy. By reducing financial risks and offering tailored technical assistance, GETF enhances the private sector’s ability to adopt and scale green business solutions that yield significant social and environmental benefits.
Funded by the Irish Embassy, German Development Corporation through KfW Development Bank and the Flanders International, and implemented by UNDP, in collaboration with Landell Mills International, GETF provides matching grants of up to $300,000 alongside bespoke technical assistance for transformative, private sector-led projects. The GETF, which to date has already contracted 15 private sector led projects which are currently under implementation, challenges private sector companies to design and implement projects that embrace long term sustainability as part of their regular work. This is a private sector development instrument aimed at accelerating the development of green business solutions which are able to address a particular pressure point in the environment and deliver significant impacts through abating of greenhouse emissions, or saving of depletion of forests, or contributing towards land restoration and conservation, or saving nature and environment, job creation and livelihood improvements, ensuring the proposed solutions adhere to the Triple A paradigm: Affordability, Accessibility, and Acceptability for targeted consumers, thereby contributing towards the achievement of United Nations sustainable development goals.
GETF will be soon launching Window 2 Round 2 which is funded by German Development Corporation through KfW Development Bank. This will be a thematic area window of matching grant and on demand technical assistance which will challenge the private sector companies to propose projects under the following thematic areas:Â
Provision of waste management solutions; private sector companies will be challenged to propose projects which will invest in green business innovations that reduce waste, promote recycling, and support circular economy practices, orÂ
Advancement of soil conservation technologies; private sector companies will be challenged to come up with projects which will promote solutions that enhance soil health and productivity through sustainable agricultural practices, or
Biodiversity conservation and restoration; to challenge private sector companies to invest in initiatives that protect and restore Malawi's unique biodiversity and orÂ
Green financial solutions; the financial sector players to be challenged to develop financial products that enhance sustainability and climate resilience.Â
